Evaluation Criteria
-
Highest Considerations
- Probability of success
- Cost per acre
- Restoration site – see wetland map viewer
- Watershed or sub-ecoregion location relative to other mitigation sites.
- Size and effort – economy of scale
- Wetland type
- Regional sites
Other Considerations
- Local Road Agency Participation
- Local Road Agency in-kind services, equipment, materials
- Local Road Agency Land Ownership
- Cost distribution: land acquisition, design, construction, monitoring.
- Who will provide construction oversight?
- Who will provide long term monitoring & maintenance?
- Will an endowment be involved?
- Who is responsible for monitoring and possible corrective actions?
- Private sales (bank sites only)
- Will acreage be made available for sales to other local road agencies?
- Is mitigation on site or adjacent to impact area?
- Preservation site?
- Value of existing site.
- Adjacent natural wetlands?
- Other complimentary uses for site.
- Effectively drained wetland?
- Perched water site vs groundwater
- Can the site water level be manipulated if needed?
- Has any work been done to date?
- Has a consultant been selected?
- Has the consultant performed any hydro-geologic work?
- Part of larger natural area?
- Adjacent natural wetland vegetation type?
- Invasive species likelihood (from surrounding area or from soil source).
- Time needed to determine success.
- Floodplain or stream connection?
- For perched site, is drainage area adequate and natural?
